The passage takes place in Tyre, a Phoenician city with a Gentile population. Because of this, Jews of course did not live in Tyre so it would be very unlikely for Jesus to go there because there wouldn’t be any believers. The woman was a Gentile and Jews despised Gentiles not because of their cultural differences but because of their difference in idols and

To Paul, being perfected in collective identity was a poor substitute to being made free in Christ. In the following passage, Paul makes an allegorical interpretation of the story of Hagar and Sarah. One of the sons are described as the son according to the σάρξ, and the other as the son of promise (4.21-30). The peculiar perspective in Paul’s account of the story is that the only persecution that occurs in the text is the persecution against Hagar and her son, not as commonly assumed against Sarah and her son.1 Moreover, the common scenario would rather be that those with prominent positions within established constructs of collective identity would persecute those who had none, namely the slaves and the servants, and others of lesser social…

The social strata I would say I was born into would have to lower middle class. The reason why I would consider myself lower middle class my family basically almost lives paycheck to paycheck, and my father works three jobs at minimum wage, and my mother works almost all day cleaning houses. And it is not that we struggle month to month, but it just that we work so for so long and so hard for very little amount of money that is enough to pay all the bill with a little left over. Being born into this strata I think has helped me to really realize that not all of us have the privilege to have wealth, and that some of us do have to work harder than others. And being a son of who immigrants, we do have less opportunities to move on up in the world.…

The concept of gender plays a significant role in the interpretation of religious artifacts. Many historians, religious insider, and academic scholars spend their time trying to decipher the meaning of a religious text. The purpose of this essay is to justify the inversion of Peter’s gender to that of a woman, in Matthew 16: 13-20, based on the concepts that Jesus was the most accepting of sinners, women deserve a chance at redemption, and women are the archetype for motherhood and creation. In addition, by changing the gender it will establish an equality of gender, in this passage that it is lacking. To fully understand this text and the inversion, the context in which it was written must be examined.…
