According to my 24 hour log and my Fitbit, yesterday I slept for 5 hours and 12 minutes, I took 8,801 steps, climbed 28 flights of stairs, drank 80 oz of water. I was at work for about 9 hours, was stuck in traffic for 2 hours while coming home, spent 2 hours with my son before I put him to sleep and read journal articles for about 3 hours before I called it a day. With the 24 hour log, I realized that work hours including the commute to and from it, took majority of my waking time. I start my day with a prayer and then read the Our Daily Bread devotional before getting out of bed. Climbing 28 flights of stairs and my daily ritual of praying and reading a devotional are the two domains that I believed that I exhibited a healthy behavior. Bellicha …show more content…
Lately, I have only been getting about 5 hours of sleep although I try to catch some extra shut-eye during the weekend. According to Forquer et al. (2008), individuals should go to bed and wake at the same time every day even on weekends to have a consistent circadian rhythm, that improve a person sleeps. The other determinant that I need to improve is nutrition. I need to add more fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains into my diet. Two environmental threats that concern me here in New York City are air pollution and climate change. Air pollution is still a significant environmental threat in New York City because there are many types of air pollutants that can come from millions of sources, inside and outside of the city boundaries (The City of New York, 2016). Climate change poses a variety of health risks like exacerbation of asthma, allergies, and other respiratory conditions due to warmer temperature that increases pollen production of plants and ground-level ozone formation (New York State, n. d.). To be a better role model to our patients, we need to practice what we preach. We can’t lecture or educate them about health and wellness when we are not even integrating it to
