Single Mom’s Retreat
I attended your Single Mom’s Retreat in 2015. It was my first and only retreat I attended; however, it impacted my life significantly! During the retreat, I felt God’s forgiveness and grace poured over my head and into my heart and I walked has a forgiven, redeem child of God. As a result, I dared to dream and to God be the Glory I am accomplishing my BIG dreams. Since the retreat, I switched jobs, earned my Masters, became debt free (and now facilitating financial classes at my church) and purchased my first home as a single mother. I would love to inspire and share my story about how God is accomplishing his good works in me because I dared to dream. If there is anything I could do to help more than just “be friender”

Foer, while not as cold or detached as a scientific paper, uses a more formal and traditional tone when compared to Bechdel who approaches these themes through the lens of a graphic novel. Single mothers make up 79.9% of all lone-parent families in Canada, representing 12.8% of all families that partook in a 2011 census (“Portrait of Families”, 2011).…

It may seem that I am only describing a small group of people out of a huge chunk but this seemingly small group is a lot bigger than it looks. I’m going to talk a little about challenges this group deals with trying to receive health care; benefits if any that may be on their side when applying or receiving health care; and what may differ between low-income childless adults and the middle class childless adults. First of all we are going to talk about some of the challenges this group may come across when applying or receiving health care.…

I have worked at Madison Elementary School for the last fourteen years and have seen many children go through “the system”; meaning being removed from their families and homes and being put into foster care. It is a heartbreaking and difficult procedure to see and it happens way too often. With that being said, once again, I find myself sharing a new adventure that has been bestowed upon me. A little over a month ago, I was called down to the office (I actually had a very anxious feeling- not normal for me).…

Ozzy wasn't a bad kid, he was just born into a bad neighborhood and coming from a single parent home didn't help the cause much either. It was three hours later when the two boys had arrived to shouting counselors who look like they just want to be in the gym.…

Children growing up in homes where both parents work, or a single parent home, and the parent has to work, often leaves kids raising themselves and often their younger siblings. As I began to look into research about, as I known it growing up, “latch key” kids, I found it interesting that with most searches, uninvolved parenting also brought up neglectful parenting. Are the youth of today being neglected, left to raise themselves, pushed into growing up too fast, or is it that in today’s society, the only choices are to work to provide or be a non-working parent and live in poverty and on welfare. As much as I would like to be a stay at home mom and spend endless amounts of time with my children, the reality is, that isn’t reality. It sounds real good and a bit fairy tale.…
