Smoking Should Not Be Allowed In Public

As a society we have developed so much. Science, medicine, and technology itself are all proof of these progressions. So why, when we have so much knowledge and information at our fingertips, are there still people doing unnecessary things such as smoking when they know that it is not good for them? Why do they smoke while knowing that what they’re doing is slowly, but surely hurting and killing them? More importantly, why do they smoke in public thus putting that many more people in danger? Frankly, smoking is not necessary, and that is why smoking should not only be permitted in public but simply in general. If you are a smoker you have the following things to look forward to: doubling your probability of getting coronary heart disease and strokes1. Not to overshadow, however, smoking also heightens the possibility of acquiring cancers. Although smoking and lung cancer are usually exclusive, smoking can also cause cancers such as stomach cancer and blood cancer2. As a matter of fact, being exposed to second hand smoke can potentially be just as deadly as smoking itself. Due to second hand smoke there are people dealing with unnecessary complications such as asthma4. It can also lead to life threatening ailments like heart disease, where 34,000 deaths occur from second hand smoke alone5. Additionally, by simply breathing in second hand smoke can also cause strokes and cancers which have caused more than 7,300 deaths6. All of these deaths could easily become preventable if we were to rid of smoking in public because all of the people who would normally be exposed to smoke could simply not have to worry about avoiding the clouds of poison and can enjoy the fresh and clean air.
