Why do people get cancer? Many people may ask this question. They do not
understand why or how their loved one or friend got this horrible disease. There are many
reasons for cancer. Most are preventable. Today, more Americans are getting cancer than
ever; cancer is caused by smoking, too much sun exposure, and serious infections.
People do things without knowing the risks they are taking. They want to be cool or fit
in. However, they do not know that their habit is killing them. More than eighty percent

Someone does not have to be directly smoking to get cancer. Second
hand smoke is bad too. If someone around the person is smoking they need to get away
from them because just breathing in that smoke can give that person cancer. The smoke
has many chemicals that cause cancer. It can also cause major heath problems like
asthma. People may think that there is a “safe” amount of second hand smoke, but there
is not. If someone is around secondhand smoke it increases their chance of cancer by
twenty to thirty percent! That is a lot, even though it doesn’t seem like it. Avoid places
where smoking occurs. Keep everything smoke free! Never be around smokers! This is the way to stay safe and cancer free!
