Why Should Certain Drugs not be legalized in the US?

“No one is immune from addiction; it afflicts people of all ages, races, classes, and professions.” This was said by Patrick J. Kennedy in the Congressional Record in the proceedings and debates of the 109th Congress First Session Volume 151, Part 15. This statement is by all means true in every aspect. No matter who you are, or where you are from, you can get addicted to drugs, most of which are extremely dangerous and harmful, both physically and mentally. On the other hand, former U.S. Congressman Ron Paul said “The federal war on drugs is a total failure… The federal government’s going in there and overriding state laws… Why don’t we handle the drugs like we handle alcohol? … I fear the drug war because it undermines our civil liberties. It magnifies our problems on the borders. We’ve spent over the last 40 years a trillion dollars on this war and — believe me — the kids can still get the drugs. It just hasn’t worked.” on September 24th, 2014 regarding the legalization of marijuana. The argument about the legalization of drugs in the United States will probably be an everlasting argument because both sides have great points about why they are right. Personally, I believe that only some drugs should be legal, while the other more dangerous and addictive drugs should be illegal. “Drugs kill.
