Imagine if you were a college athlete striving to provide entertainment for your student body and college fans, along with bringing in revenue for your school. Would you want to be paid for all the hard work, time, and dedication you put in, or are scholarships and grants enough to satisfy you? Whether or not college athletes should be paid is a huge controversy in today’s society and includes many pros and cons. One pro being that college athletics provide revenue for companies, but if we were to play devil’s advocate one could say that the student athletes already receive benefits through the school such as scholarship money, grants, and part time jobs. Through research I have discovered that the cons out weigh the pros, therefore, it would be in the schools best interest if college athletes did not get paid. Many are intrigued by this topic because as an athlete, it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to excel in a sport, but college is just an extension of one’s education and getting to play a sport while representing a school is a privilege within its self. Getting paid is something to look forward to when becoming a professional. That should be an incentive for college athletes to work hard and get noticed so that they can make a career of it. Individuals that are oppose to college athletes being paid would argue that student athletes are already receiving benefits considering a majority of them are there on scholarship.
