The next day was Christmas and she had to get something for Alled, her husband. She had only one perfect gift she wanted to buy but she could never buy it with the money she had right now. Mij called her dog and her companion, Mark Watney. Mark stood next to Mij and waited for his owner to give him a friendly command. Mij looked into Mark’s eyes, they were full of obedience and companionship.

“Mark, please get my purse”

She ran, ran as fast as she could into the crowd. Stumbling and staggering, Mij stopped and looked around. She had no idea where she was or what kind of person she was, but she did know how to get back home. On her way home she stopped by at an antique store to buy the present that she was planning to buy for Alled. She bought the beautiful turtle shell covering that was stained with beautiful colors, and even contained a small jewel in the middle. A few weeks before, Mij saw it, the shell covering was begging for a turtle to wear it, Mij knew she had to get for Watney as the turtle needed something to brighten up its boring life. She still couldn’t get over the fact that she had sold Mark. She just orphaned her friend, her companion, her family’s treasure. She became depressed right as she stepped into that wretched pet store. Mij walked back to the apartment and sat down at her chair. Tears rolled down her eyes like a waterfall, they just kept on coming. She glanced at her shin, almost feeling the soft touch of Marks paws nagging at Mij to throw the tennis ball. Mij even thought she heard the friendly barks of Mark, playing with his chew toys and chasing after the ball. Mij stared at the long, solitary hallway, looking at the worn out tennis ball, alone in the hallway instead of being in Mark’s mouth. Mij picked up her purse and threw it at the the cupboard next to the tv, which was filled with photos of Mij and Mark.
