Even thought they took place about eleven years apart the French and Indian War had a large effect and set up one of the main reasons for the revolution. The French and Indian War largely impacted the future as it gave the Colonies a fighting force full of veterans and other experienced soldiers ready to fight for what they believe in. The French and Indian War gave the colonist knowledge of guerilla warfare tactics that were commonly employed by the Native Americans. Guerilla warfare is a brutal and effective for small numbers against large armies that requires extensive knowledge of the land as well as the ability to move quickly. The colonist used this to their advantage for attacking the well-trained British army, for in a head on military engagement the British would crush the colonist forces. As a result the Continental Army became the first military to employ large-scale guerilla tactics, and one of the most effective militaries at the time and to this day still is still very effective. This gave the colonist a fighting chance by using one of Britain’s mortal enemies against them after fighting a very costly war against them. The French wanted another foothold in the colonies, which they eventually gained with Louisiana, but the main reason was to strike back at the British military for the defeat suffered by them in the colonies as well as in the mainland of Europe.
