Chief Pontiac was a frontiersman. He was very unnerved at the French’s decision to hand over land that wasn’t their land to give away in the first place. He along with other native Americans decided that they would continue fighting the settlers. The British were certainly not in a good position to fight considering their lack in financial and egotistical support. So of course the British were forced to come up with some kind of compromise. The compromise that they came up with was named the Proclamation of 1763. This proclamitory document states that they would remove the settlers from the Ohio River valley and push them back eastward. The colonists however were extremely reluctant to leave. Most even stayed firmly planted in the soil that wasn’t theirs to begin with. They had so much that they would lose if they left. Things like wealth from the fur trade. And the king wasn’t really able to demand that the colonists leave and leave in a timely manner, because he wasn’t anywhere near America. The colonist not only refused the request the colonists to leave the Ohio River valley but they also pressed further east. This made the king full on mad. The sugar Act of 1764 also caused many problems. The British place heavy taxes on sugar. The colonists already had to pay quite a bit of money in order to get sugar, but the taxes would make the price even higher. The colonists were told by Britain that the taxes placed on their items were put in place in order to pay for their protection from Native American attacks. Although the colonists truly did need the protection, in truth the taxes were for Britain to pay for their steep war debt. The colonists were angry because they believed they didn’t even start the war which was mostly true. Samuel Adams then decides to start up a group of men named the committee of correspondence.
