Scott’s first change is triggered in sequence 2 when Fran asks to be his new partner. In the beginning of the film, Scott is portrayed as rebellious and this is shown by the use of the colour black①. In Les Kendall’s dance studio, Scott is irritated by everyone because they are showing their disgust about Scott’s behaviour at the championships. Shirley pressures Scott to dance with Liz after Ken dropped her. Fran sees Scott with Liz and “is back in beginners where I (Fran) belong”②. Doug then reveals the truth about the 1967 championships and how him and Shirley did not dance together because they “lived our (Doug and Shirley) lives in fear”②. Scott finally realises that Fran is the right dancer for him. The film moves in slow motion as he spins around to have one last look at Liz and Shirley before jumping offstage to find Fran①. Scott shows his true colours and feelings about Fran and they finally dance together. the mood then changes as Scott is now in gold which shows the audience that he is now a champion①. The matador jacket which Rico wears is now worn by Scott to symbolise the respect and knowledge he has gained through Rico, Yaya and Fran. At the end of the film we see Scott’s change when he portrays freedom and the sense to respect everyone, no matter what culture they are.
