This study analyzed the differences and the relationships of the isolated sciatic nerve in regards to the compound action potential and the neuromuscular junction stimulations of the Rana pipens gastrocnemius. A total of five exercises were used to identify the effects on the stimulation of the sciatic nerve and the gastrocnemius. A dissection for both labs were performed to isolate the nerve and to isolate the gastrocnemius. Both experiments used LabChart to perform various stimulations on the sciatic nerve and the gastrocnemius muscle to observe the level of intensity, contraction, and voltage threshold caused by different stimulation pulses.

In order to analyze the responses of the sciatic nerve and the gastrocnemius of a Rana pipens, one exercise was selected from Lab five and five exercises were selected from Lab six. Both lab five and Lab six had a study length of three weeks to be performed. In the first experiment, the only exercise analyzed (Exercise one), was the determination of the threshold voltage and the relationship between stimulus intensity and compound action potentials(CAP). The highest stimulus intensity was 400 mV and it also stimulated a high CAP amplitude of 133.2 mV (Figure 1). For the muscle and the nerve, the higher the stimulus amplitude the bigger the stimulation contraction force. The highest stimulation amplitude for both the muscle and nerve was 95 mV. The muscle stimulation contraction force was 1.69N and the nerve had a force of 0.99N (Figure 2). For the sciatic nerve the bigger the preload force, the bigger the raw twitch force, and the lower the net twitch force. The largest preload was 2.31N, it resulted in a 2.76N raw twitch force, and a net twitch force of 0.45N (Figure 3). When the sciatic nerve was exposed to pulse interval twin peaks were present, however, the second peak had the highest force, however as the pulse increased the peaks merged together. The highest force was on the second peak with a force of 4.06N, this was caused by a pulse interval of 500ms. The merging of the twin peaks occurred at 20ms with a force of 3.93N (Figure 4). The isolated nerve was then exposed to varies stimulus intervals to determine its maximum contraction force. Therefore, the last stimulus interval of 20ms had the largest maximum contraction force of 4.69N (Figure 5). The last experiment required, seven different time stimulation to determine the maximum contraction force for both the muscle and nerve stimulation. The maximum
