Many people attempt to be happy, but only a few achieve happiness. Rubin Gretchen’s happiness project was somewhat effective in the trial of wanting to be happy, and reach a state of joy. Rubin experienced a diverse amount of activities. The most effective included talking to strangers, being there for her family and stop nagging at all times. In the first unit, “The Fundamentals of Happiness,” The Dalai Lama, states, “Not to have what we want but rather to want and appreciate what we have.” In other words, to be appreciative of what life provides and appreciate what comes along is what makes us accepting. A desire is a want, but not a need it is about being grateful. Therefore, wanting and accepting what cannot be changed amplifies the …show more content…
In the process of searching for more fun she expected to fill an emptiness within her. She hoped these activities could restore joy and happiness. Rubin’s expectations then turned into disappointments. In search for a good time, this lead to feeling only physical satisfaction and pleasure. “True happiness relates more to the mind and heart. Happiness that depends mainly on physical pleasure is unstable one day it’s there the next day it’s not,” states the Dalai Lama. Other activities were very successful. Because some of her ideas brought success into her life, I would love to experience the process of pursuing a passion. Her experience was greatly positive when she pursued books as a passion. The reason being pursuing a passion allows a feeling of fulfilment and accomplishment. releasing dopamine a feel good chemical. In addition, The 4 brain chemicals by K.W. Stout, it describes, “Dopamine is the sense of accomplishment when we get things done, accomplish our goals or complete our projects.” The feeling of accomplishing a goal especially when it requires motive and travail work, is a feeling of capability and determination boosting our self confidence, worth, and inner strength. Another would be friendship which releases oxytocin and is the chemical of love. “Oxytocin creates intimacy, inspires trust, and builds healthy relationships,” claims Stout.
