So since I can remember I have been presented with lots of info on the Civil War. When researching the history of the time and place I wanted my “Romeo and Juliet” to occur I was not as certain of what was happening in Virginia during 1861 and the beginning years of the war so I had to go and find sources on the topic, so I did what and college student should do and went to the library and checked out as many books as I could about the Civil War in Virginia in 1861, and I actually found a lot of cool books. My favorite that I came across were The Civil War a Concise History, The Negro America: A Documentary History, Civil War Virginia and The Civil War in 50 Objects. From each of these books I was able to pull a lot of information from the time that was very helpful with not only helping me with my historical research of the time period but also with how I was going to structure some of my characters. I used The Civil War a Concise History for some historical context of what was happening during the beginning stages of the war in 1861 for some of the details I wasn’t very sure about like the military status of the Confederate States at the beginning of the war, or how their economic status was
