The 40% is compared to which group of people (people who drink soda and didn’t develop prostate cancer, a control group that drank water etc.) The author fails again to provide percentage comparisons when stating that soda increases risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 26% (1). What are these percentages being compared to? Risk assessment studies are usually transparent when it comes to providing data.
When speaking of dietary exposure, the author should mention that drinking soda is a matter of choice unlike chemical spills that end up in your drinking water ; therefore, the harmful implication related to soda can be avoided by simply not consuming it.
