When you take a sip of soda, the sugar and acid attack your teeth for twenty minutes, starting over with each sip (“WDA”). Soft drinks have a very destructive effect on teeth. They have emerged as one of the most significant sources of tooth decay (“Colgate”). The sugar and acids soften the tooth enamel and, if not fixed, can eventually lead to tooth loss. An example of this would be a study done in Alaskan villages. In these villages, there is no running water and most families buy soda instead of water because it is cheaper. When examined, these kids were found to have almost 40 percent more cavities than average U.S. children. Soda was found as a high cause of this (“CDC”). Overall, this beverage has been proven to be harmful to teeth.

The digital scale being used, had grams as the smallest unit. The scale also rounded to the nearest whole number instead of keeping in decimal form. The chalk could have been affected by a few tenths or hundredths of a gram and not a whole gram. Another error that occurred was the change in temperature. The soda went from being room temperature to very cold. This wasn’t very likely to have affected the data, but possibly could have.
