For my rhetorical analysis assignment, I analyzed “Apple Style Guide” by Apple Inc. This style guide is intended for use by writers, editors, and developers as a reference to writing style, usage and Apple product terminology. Writers and editors should pay close attention to this guide as it can help them become familiar with topics involved in creating high-quality, dependable materials and documents. Apple developers should follow this guide for assistance with any text that they will implement in their software that will be visible to users.

Active voice in writing is most commonly preferred in many of the world’s languages. It means to use active verbs, as opposed to passive verbs. For example, in the Apple Style Guide, of the international style section, it is stated that “Apple sold 3.7 million iMac computers in 2 years.” This sentence is an example of active voice, as the subject in the sentence is performing the action. The subject is “Apple”, while the action is “sold 3.7 million iMac computers in 2 years.” In most cases, active voice is preferred because it is often less wordy and less confusing than passive voice. It is easier to understand and interpret active voice as opposed to passive voice. It is clear why this style guide would be written in active voice. The style guide is intended to be used by a variety of people around the world, native English speakers, and non-native English speakers alike. This, therefore, makes for a more effective document rhetorically. The simple design and language of this style guide makes it easier to follow along with and suitable for not only native English speakers, but also non-native English speakers that may need to translate. The alphabetical organizational pattern that this style guide follows also simplifies things for the reader as they can arrive to the information that they need more quickly, simply by scrolling through the alphabet and finding their needed
