The Syrian Refugee Crisis: The Worst Humanitarian Disaster of Our Time Since the war in Syria began six years ago, World Vision says that “eleven million people have been displaced from their homes;”that’s more than half of Syria’s population. As this war wages on, people are dying and millions of refugees are left without a home. The Syrian Refugee Crisis is a direct result of Assad’s ruthless governing and the civil war in Syria; it has caused millions to leave their homes and face many trials in an unwelcoming world. The creator of all this chaos is Syria’s dictator, Bashar al-Assad. Assad, who has been president of Syria since 2000, showed many dictatorial behaviors, …show more content…
No one knows for sure how many Syrian refugees there are, just that they are many and they are in need. The Syrians that leave their country have to face a harrowing journey to find a new home. If they go by land, there are many risks of being caught and captured; if they go by sea, their boat may capsize. If they survive the journey and make it to a safe refugee camp, a whole news journey begins. It is very difficult for those in refugee camps to find a home, many of the countries taking in refugees have their own economic struggles. Refugees are frantically applying for visas to countries where they have family and believe they could build a new life in. Unfortunately, many of them are denied visas or sent to countries where they know no one and do not speak the language. If they do get to a safe, stable country, they are one of the lucky ones. However, they are still forced to face the prejudice and mistrust of the residents of that country. A few months ago in Greece, parents protested Syrian children’s first day of school (BBC). Children, just trying to get an education, are made to be terrorists and rapists. While Syrian refugees out of the country are struggling, over half of refugees are displaced within their own war-torn country. Aleppo, one of the centers of war in Syria, is a symbol of the utter chaos that is Syria. It is very difficult to get aid to Aleppo because the government has so much control there. According to World Vision, children living in Aleppo are constantly surrounded by war and death with no escape. The people causing this do not care about the casualties, or about the children that will never know a home, or about the parents forced to put their children on boats just to get them away from this fractured
