Today, Riel has set up a provisional government in an attempt to make sure the rights of the Red River Valley Métis are protected and their voices are heard. Riel hopes that the provisional government gives the Métis of the Red River Valley the power to negotiate for confederation.
Louis Riel's government now has sovereign rights; therefore, the power to negotiate with the Canadian Government. Riel, also, has now no reason to fear the Orange Order’s racist Canadian Party.
