Reflective Report In Nursing

Register to read the introduction… However, sceptics have questioned how the concept is sometimes interpreted, arguing that there is unclear logical and pragmatic examination of its value in professional development. Therefore, developing a reflective report is an undertaking that needs to be approached with caution, more so if individual reflection and critical thinking are to be rooted. The purpose of this reflective report is to reflect on the collaborative boat bus project performance and the experiences of working within a multidisciplinary group. The report will give consideration to the feedback we obtained from the client and from Adam Smith (tutor) and how we then applied this feedback to feed in the report writing. An iterative model, meaning learning through participating, somewhat adapted to the one in Bulman and Schultz (2013)’s ‘Reflective Practice in Nursing p232’, Gibbs (1988)’s reflective cycle explains the significance of the evaluation process, especially building on negative as well as positive feedback. Relying heavily on Gibbs’s reflective cycle and corresponding models, this individual seeks to reflect on the Nottingham boat bus project and analyse the utility of practical application of knowledge gained throughout the entire …show more content…
Alongside the Gibbs theoretical model, this report will also consider the 4 stage experimental learning cycle (1984), by David Kolb. Theoretically, it is often confusing to distinguish evaluation and analysis as these variables seem to demand similar questions. However, the remainder steps description, feelings, conclusion and action plan tend to be statements of value, statements of summation and statements of rationale. So, correlating the two models will enhance the opportunity to reflect on the multidisciplinary nature of the collaborative consultancy, evaluating how we planned, organized tasks and roles and also ascertain what we could have done better. Most importantly, using a personal development plan, this individual will reflect on how the experience has enhanced research skills, written and oral communication, time management, working to deadlines, ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment productively and

So simply, reflection is the ability to turn a negative into a positive. This is incredibly important in nursing practice as when we make a mistake, learn a different technique or a situation happens that we feel we could have handled better, reflection allows us to look back where we went wrong and how we could correct ourselves in the future. Reflection can make an nurse more confident and knowledgeable with patient care as well as with every day nursing situations. Even more so, it can be what makes a nurse into an incredible nurse.…

If a nursing intervention follows the nursing process, e.g., assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate – it demonstrates the clinical reasoning that supports the patient care. As cited by Alfaro-Lefevre (2012) Skip the principles of assessment and diagnosis and it’s easy to jump to conclusions, miss risks, and give care based on assumptions rather than evidence. Assessment errors and omissions are a major cause of adverse outcomes. If you fail to plan before implementation, the risk of adverse outcomes also increases. Skip evaluation, and reflective nursing practice (not to mention patient safety) goes out the door (p. 1).…

The nursing staff and I were mindful of avoiding injury to staff and myself as well as the patient at the same time watching my posture plus doing manual handling procedures and guidance from the nurses. I performed the maneuverer correctly as I was able to advise the nurses to lower the trolley (bed) to the wheelchair height then lift the headrest forward so my mother is sitting upright before carefully moving her body onto the wheelchair in a one motion move by holding one side of her shoulders then pulling her gently and carefully towards…

It is supposed to involve the patient in their plan of care, which in turn is supposed to improve patient satisfaction, as well as overall care. Our nurse manager would out of nowhere appear and follow her employees around to make sure that bedside report was being done.…

Hi Sally, my hospital also enforces mandatory bedside report by all nurses during shift change. I actually enjoy performing bedside report because of several reasons. First of all, I am a visual person so being able to see the patient as they describe how their shift went for me, really helps me understand what had happened and what to anticipate on my shift. Second, if the patient is awake, alert, and oriented, they can be involved during the report by adding on anything they felt the nurse missed or answer any questions I ask them during the report. Third, I have a good view of the room, equipment, continuous bedside monitor, medication drips, and other necessary equipment that they need.…

Reflection is a vital skill that all nurses should be competent at. The Royal College of Nursing (2017) suggests that reflection is a way to think about an activity or experience and consider what was positive and negative about it, enabling us to plan how we could do something differently or improve on for the future. The Oxford Dictionary of Nursing (2014) defines reflection as “the careful consideration of one’s own professional practice, including the ability to review, analyse, and evaluate situations during or after events (possibility using a recognised model)”. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (2017) encourages nurses to reflect, saying that it enables them to identify any changes or improvements to their practices and it’s an important…

It was also a chance to analyse and recognise anything that needed to change in order to improve the quality of care provided. One particular reflection produced the opportunity to reflect on confidence. This was an area that had grown considerably within personal care. The reflection process helps to deepen the understanding of the fundamental aspect of building a relationship with the patient; this is something that should not be underestimated like it is by many student nurses as discussed in Bower (2009). An aspect that was identified during reflecting that needed developing was communication with the patient when engaging in personal care, the NMC (2015) states that in order to practice effectively and provide dignity in care you must be able to communicate clearly.…
