Helen, the unit I worked on prior to where I am now, was a Med-Surg unit and our nurse manager initiated the change to do bedside report as well. It was a change that as nurses we were not use to. It involved having to go into the patient’s room and give report with the patient present. It is supposed to involve the patient in their plan of care, which in turn is supposed to improve patient satisfaction, as well as overall care. Our nurse manager would out of nowhere appear and follow her employees around to make sure that bedside report was being done.
