All around the world, people are witnessing a rise in cultural wars, hate crimes and racial diversity. Possible future presidents talking about building a wall across the Mexican border, to the wars that are going on in Africa due to cultural and native-born pride. The source behind a lot of the worlds problems can easily be linked to what is called Xenophobia. You see it every day all around you, brainwashed with the constant reminder of the current issues dealing with racism and immigration in America. People all over the world feel the effects of Xenophobia but have no clue what it even is.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines Xenophobia as the fear or hatred of strangers or foreigners, or anything that could be found as strange or foreign. Foreigners are often drawn to countries with expectations of higher earnings, dreams of better living, and the belief of additional freedoms. The United States is considered the land of the free after all. These foreigners are usually seen leaving their own nation during states of tension or crisis. These tensions can range anywhere from political reasons, like a tyrannical government, to an economic crisis, like the United States experienced, known as the Great Depression. Even cultural differences or different religious beliefs can force citizens to leave their nation in hopes for a better life. The fear of these foreigners and the impact that their immigration to another nation has, can be seen as linked to ethnocentrism.…
