Racial Discrimination In Society

Many societies are becoming much more racially and ethnically diverse. The incorporation of different ethnicities in a society have been common for several decades already. Huge progress has been made in modern civilizations in terms of reducing racism. However, racism still exists in our life more commonly than you think. Racism, as defined by the Oxford Dictionary, is the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior. Here we have the infamous example of the Holocaust, where millions of Jews were murdered by the Nazis who think they were more superior. Racial discrimination comes in many different forms. Firstly, we can perform the desensitization techniques on the colored teens. In psychology, desensitization refers to reduced emotional responsiveness to a negative or aversive stimulus through repeated exposure to the stimulus. Conveniently, the process of desensitization can start at the prenatal stage. The pregnant mother can play recordings of racially discriminative insults to the fetus everyday to accommodate the almost born baby. The mother should also repeatedly the insultive words throughout the whole adolescence of the kid. As a result, the accomodated child will be fully trained and prepared to face the harsh words by their schoolmates without feeling stressed at …show more content…
Eventhough many delusional people still think that we live in a peaceful world where racism does not exist anymore, but the truth is, racism is still around us much closer than we think. Have you ever heard that people say that Asians are smarter? This may seem to be a complement, but I’m sorry, this is racism as well. We all born with the same talents and abilities, why is there a need to differentiate all of us? Unfortunately, racism won’t be able to be eradicated for another few generations. Racism will still exist for a while if someone sucessfully builds a wall at the southern border. What we can do right now is to correctly educate our youth. Teach them that the differences between people are not something to be afraid of. Teach them that we can overcome our differences with love and tolerance. Teach them that we’re all human beings with the same flesh, blood, and spirit beneath our

Our society is like a statue, they both need the proper structure needed in order to keep it steady, but when one piece does not fit, then they will both topple down. Although statues may not relate to the problem, racism can relate to the one piece that does not fit, and this problem is explained in the articles " Black Men In Public Spaces", by Brent Staples, and " Is Everyone A Little Bit Racist" , by Nicolas Kristof. These articles dive into the topic of how racism affects everyday lives and how detrimental it is to the society and the people within. Also, it shows the unfortunate story of a victim of racism. Unless changes are made, racism will rule supreme in communities and there will be nothing for people to stop it.…

Over the course of 100 years, there have been about 62 million deaths due to all forms of racism to many different races. Racism started off as something very violent and very demolishing in the early 1900’s. Blacks were hung, punished for unreasonable accidents, and treated unequally as a human being. As the years progressed, during the mid-1900’s racism has improved immensely. Blacks and whites are coexisting with each other, and working for large organizations like NASA, but the blacks still weren’t treated as equal.…

In a nation that was built by slaves with their blood, sweat, and tears for about two hundred forty-five years, it is hard to detect the demolishing of racism in America 's future. America has a rich history of people of European descent being immoral and unethical towards minorities through many forms. The people of European descent continued the “Us vs. Them” idea and kept their superiority by placing laws that separated themselves from the minorities and provided certain privileges to white Americans. Although our founding fathers and ancestors did not have the brain of cavemen, they did not have half of the knowledge or the technology that we have now have in America, but yet racism is still apparent and growing here. Since racism is…

“Racism” is a word that means a lot of things to many different people. To some, it may be a thing of the past--something their ancestors dealt with. We as a society have come a long way since the beginning of racial inequalities, which includes slavery, the Civil War and emancipation, civil rights movements and to a current state of racial and cultural turmoil. The real question is have we really made any progress throughout time to create a better society and equal social system? In today’s society, it is a common occurrence to see those of color being arrested, lacking jobs, living in poor environments, and involved in violent acts which includes recent shootings. Prior to the civil rights movements and Jim Crow laws, any white person could easily discriminate against another person of color. Unfortunately, in our current day and age people have neglected these laws and found ways to…

The review of literature previously mentioned in this essay proved that there was a correlation between racism and a child’s cognitive and behavioural health. It stated that anger and aggression as a result of racial discrimination, could predict the average alcohol intake in African American adolescents (Pachter and Coll, 2009). Furthermore, a social science research paper reviewed 121 global studies that also assessed the association between racism and child health (Priest et al., 2013). The paper found 461 health-related outcomes in children as a result of racism, 46% of which were negatively associated with reported racism and 51% of which were related to negative mental health, including loneliness, distress, negative self-esteem and social and emotional difficulties. Preschool children aged 3 to 5 accounted for 43% of the negative mental health outcomes, along with 70% of primary children aged 6 to 11 years and 76% in high school, aged 12 to 18.…

The sentence, “And you are not the guy and still you fit the description because there is only one guy who is always the guy fitting the description” is repeated. I think it’s repeated because the author want to remind us that there is always someone mistaken for the criminal. This is important because in the black community, people are always being frisk for unjustified reasons or rather they fit the description. Everytime I read that sentence, I start to think deeper and and ask myself why is there always one other person that fits the criminal description? I learned in my American Government class that black people are the highest victims of stop and frisk.…

Passive strategies--which include avoidance, withdrawal, silence, and laughter when dealing with racism--lead to lower self-esteem, lower life-satisfaction, and an increased chance of developing a drug addiction (Pittman, 2011). Black youth, who have to learn how to cope with hostility early in life, often struggle emotionally when forming their identity (Ward et al., 2013). Blacks are consistently pressured to downplay their cultural identities in order to function in a society that adheres to Eurocentric ideals. African attitudes, values, and politics are superimposed on when they are not imitative of the European community, which weakens the functioning of the Black identity (Ward et al.,…

One of the attitudes of the African American towards job searching is that they have the fear of being discriminated by their white counterparts who happen to be their employers in most of the time. Another fear is that of harassment by their employers and being underpaid as compared to other employees who are working in the same positions. Another attitude is that they fear being demoralized or being intimidated by their employers, and even being used wrongly. Some of the enlightened African Americans have self-motivation despite the social norms that are constructed on a racial basis.…
