According to our textbook Anti-Bias education for young children and ourselves, the educational system should promote the ability for a child to be comfortable with the interaction of others of diversity. In reviewing the article this should have begun as early as elementary school since the primary individuals causing the altercation were the TAMU students, not those visiting, although the underlined tones of this event are societal and family influences the few students whom played a major part in this matter have developed a decision making process of what is right and wrong. Our society has stereotypical views of those who are not white, as an educator it is our responsibility to break down those stereotypical views without disrupting any one-persons self-identity or cultural background. In chapter five, of our reading, the authors discuss the value of culture, both in a positive way and a negative way. It is the job of the educator to promote the anti-bias goals; with respect to culture each individual needs to identify who they are as a person, their own identity, and learn to thrive and grow through the knowledge of each individual child’s heritage, therefore not allowing others to mock or intimidate another because of differences in culture, socioeconomic status, gender, family structure or abilities is an important commitment we take on when educating …show more content…
I also believe that this particular campus need sensitivity training provided to the students, as that may be how you feel but a young child is not who you address your issues with. They need to have a better dialogue on diversity on their campuses and maybe throughout all college campus since this is not the only campus this takes place, this incident was aimed at young children therefor received more attention and action is taking
