Yes, racism is discussed in history books and taught throughout the country, but many do not hear the views of racism from those that are not black and the current generation of whites. Some blacks and other minorities feel as though whites still have the same superior viewpoint as those from the early 1900s because when discussing racism, whites are not the first group of people thought to be asked;, that viewpoint has not being given much room to change. In addition, the idea that racism is not just black versus white is not a common argument brought up as well. It is undeniable that the white American experience is different than that of a person of color in America, and that there are many individuals who still desire white supremacy, which is not the common stance. Today many Caucasians are not ignorant to the fact that they may have it easier than other races, and many people of color have come to terms with the fact that they have to work harder to get equal treatment.
Overall, the question whether racism is real or not is unanimously answered with a yes. No matter the race or background, students at the University of West Georgia realize that racism is prevalent in today’s society. With social media applications such as Twitter, there are images and videos from around the world that are shedding light on that fact daily. Everyday there is a new story about a social injustice based on one’s skin color. Racism may not be as bad as it was sixty years ago, but we are far from seeing the last of
