One issue that has been taken into consideration is, how we became to be America. In 1619 slavery was first brought to the Americas which caused for certain races to feel inferior over other races. With the idea that humans could own other humans gradually progressed to the birth of slavery. When history progressed, America realized that slavery was inhuman and stripped rights from African Americans. Europeans began to revolt against slavery. This led to the 1857 riot on the treatment of slaves. Dred Scott fought for himself and others to have the freedom that other White males and females were granted. Unfortunately, his case was overruled brining us to the issue in 1960’s where Blacks, Hispanics and Whites took a stand for racial equality, with the hope of finally gaining’s rights. What we learned from that case was the act of everyone being treated as a human being. Thanks to the dedication the country had as a whole, the passing of a law that granted every citizen equal rights majorly effected how today’s society as progressed. The flaws that we seek to overturn have been greatly reduced. This nation is understanding what is takes to become a society who accepts and understands rather then, hates and discriminates. Her election gave women within the United States and abroad hope in making the world a better place through government. Four years later, Representative Chisholm announced her bid as a presidential candidate. In this announcement, Chisholm discussed her democratic policies to promote racial justice across the world. Looking back on her speech and election to Congress, it is evident that her role in government set precedent for the future of racial and gender equality in government within the United States. The comparison between the Chisolm era and the modern era can be expressed in one word: acceptance. Hilary Clinton running for the 2016 presidential election may not seem to be as big of a deal due to the role of “accepted” or elected women and minorities who have taken on major government roles across the world; however, the stakes are just as high because the United States has never had a woman as Commander in Chief. Consequently, equality has overcome major obstacles, but the grand prize for women within the United States has yet to be “accepted” by the American public who will have their chance make history in the November
