One controversial issue that has been around for centuries is racial discrimination. Racial discrimination is the unfair treatment or bias against someone or a group of people on the basis of their race. Around the 1870s, Jim Crow laws came into effect. These laws emphasized the racial segregation in state and local laws after the Reconstruction period in the United States. Jim Crow laws affected the United States in the biggest way possible by encouraging one race to hate the other and bringing upon the KKK. These are some of the reasons why America is in a state of turmoil as we speak. For example, Remember the Titans. This movie is based on a true story about a racially-diverse football team, their new African-American coach, and different traditions each player comes to learn throughout the movie. The Titans players did not like Coach Yost being replaced by Herman Boone, a black man. Coach Boone did not let these ill feelings thwart him, but instead tried his best to ensure the team was mixed at all times. His teachings included the football players sitting on the bus next to a different race, staying in the same room with that same person, and having the members write down a few facts about their roommates. During one football game, Ray Budds, a white player let his black teammate get injured purposely just so that he would not be able to play for the rest of that season. After this incident, the team started to come together as one. Nonetheless, many people did not like this at all. One scene even showed the black and white players trying to celebrate their win, but could not because the bar would not allow the African-American players in. The message this movie sends to the world is that however much racism there is on this planet, tranquility can still be found at certain people and
