The Royal Canadian Air Force, established on April 1st, 1924, is a Canadian based military organization that is responsible for the countries aerial based defences and assaults. The organization was created as a result of the rapid development of military aviation and the result of previous pilots who joined the Royal Flying Corps. Pilots such as Billy Bishop pioneered early Canadian air force development and established Canada as a capable country. From what was first a civil government organization created for civil aviation in the late 20s, it soon blossomed into a military based institution designed for military use. For instance, during the Great Depression, funds were heavily cut and hindered the growth of the organization but this was eventually solved due to economic growth in 1935. They have also played a massive part in Canadian cooperation with United States by becoming a trusted air force they could rely on during the Cold War. The RCAF planes used to carry nuclear weapons developed by the United States as a means of defence, giving us the impression that the United States had a lot of trust with Canada. The most important aspect the RCAF is remembered for, is their participation within World War II by becoming one of the strongest air force during it’s time. The RCAF is now commemorated for it’s accomplishments in the Second World War, achievements achieved by their pilots and how they elevated on our trust with our closest ally, the United States. It gives the reader an idea of who the RCAF is, what they did and why we should remember them. The plane is the main attraction as it will quickly draw the reader’s attention and give them a general idea of what the memorial is about. The viewer should be able to gain a small understanding of the RCAF and remember them for what they did. Canada can be often confused for other countries/nations and the viewer will be able to know that Canada has its own air force that is very unique and important to world history via WW2. The symbol used is seen with the actual Canadian fighter plane as that in itself should be able to quickly tell the viewer that the memorial commemorates Canada and it’s airforce. We hope that whoever looks at the memorial can instantly make a connection with just the model and if they get interested, they can always read the information provided. The text speaks about RCAF and it’s accomplishments and involvement within the war; arguably their most important role.
