Do you know somebody that has had struggled with a mental illness? Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. People all over the world are fighting some kind of mental disorder. I have struggled with some disorders of my own. I know how tough it can be to overcome these conditions, and that’s why I have chosen psychiatry as my career. I want to help people rise above their sicknesses, and live a normal healthy life. Psychology is the study of how the mind works, and in psychiatry you have to know the ins and outs of the mind. They help their patients find the root of their problems and help them recover or to help them live a normal life with their illness. Psychologists and psychiatrists are in the same field with the exception of that psychiatrists prescribe medicine and psychologists cannot (Shmoop). Medication is usually the last resort, but if it seems to be the only choice, a psychiatrist will prescribe it. Psychiatrists deal with many different mental disorders; bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, etc. There are many different disorders, these are only some in which a psychiatrist will come across. Compared to other occupations there are not many job opportunities for this profession. Some psychiatrists are self-employed, which means they pretty much run their own business. Hospitals also need psychiatrists to work with patients, whether it is a mental hospital or not. In most situations you can get a job in rural areas with…
