Getting to know the patients and having them tell you everything builds a special bond that you don’t get with a normal doctor. Doctors you might see once every 3 months, but psychiatrist you may see once every 2 weeks. You build a personal connection with your patients and that really appeals to me. Being a psychiatrist allows you be self employed or you can work in a hospital setting. The salary when you are self employed fluctuates. The average salary though is $190,563-$237,881. This is for both self employed and in a hospital setting. Both work places have their benefits, but they require the same education, training, and certification. To be a psychiatrist it takes multiple years of education. Psychiatrist usually start at undergraduate school.
