Psychoanalysis defines a system of psychological treatment and therapy in which the main objective is to treat mental disorders by investigating the interaction of conscious and unconscious elements in the mind and bringing repressed fears into the conscious mind. And according to Personality Psychologist Sigmund Freud, it refers to the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders.
Three examples of depressive disorders, also known as DSM-5 depressive disorders, that would be referred to in this study would be MDD, (Major Depressive Disorder), Major Depressive Episodes, and Dysthymic Disorder, also known as the DSM-5 disorders.
Major Depressive Disorder refers to either single or recurrent Major Depressive Episodes that last for at least 2 years. they involve two types of major depressive episodes:
1. Single MDEs= Highly unusual/rare major depressive episodes
2. Recurrent MDEs= As the name states, these are highly common Major depressive Episodes
These symptoms are most common in:
-people below poverty level
-caucasians and native americans
Major depressive Episodes, on the other hand are less intense than Major depressive disorder. They refer to extreme depressed mood states that include cognitive Symptoms, Mood disorders, and Anhedonia. Plus they involve hypomanic episodes and at least five of the following symptoms within the same two week period:
