The mapping device known as the Genetic Neural Sonar has been actively tested and used from Yale University Medical School. This device has the capability of locating inherited gene base abnormalities in brain structure and chemistry. This mapping device could and would be used to map the brain genetic structure and determine if an individual has the kind of abnormal genetic structure that Starkweather believes are responsible for predisposing people to commit violent crimes. There are too many accounts when people try and use the insanity defense, or unable to stand trial due to mental incompetence. “For Ripstein people are held to be legally responsible for actions in order to uphold the framework of freedom and security for all. One person’s freedom would be compromised if others could be excused from liability” (Levitt, 2013). These individual’s should be held responsible for their actions. By having this Genetic Neural Sonar testing, it would help alleviate 60 percent of these cases because they would be prevented with the help of this testing. It has been proven throughout history that genetics plays a large role in committing crimes and the behavior of these individuals.
