Researchers believe that the fundamental objective of the Six Sigma methodology is the implementation of a measurement-based strategy that focuses on process improvement and variation reduction through the application of Six Sigma improvement projects (What is Six Sigma, 2015). Considering the various options of accomplishing the task, both DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve, control) and DMADV process (define, measure, analyze, design, verify) are both sufficient pathways. Both methodologies seek to improve an organization 's work processes and create a quality system for the overall desires of the stakeholder. Compared to the DMADV process, DMAIC uses the existing process as the baseline and creates a sequence of improvements that support and initiate the plan for the organization and monitored closely. Furthermore, to provide a better understanding of the Six Sigma DMAIC process, one must have a better understanding of each of the steps required to execute the plan and achieve the desired outcome for the organization (What is Six Sigma, 2015). First, when implementing Six Sigma DMAIC the individual or team must identify and define the problem or challenge faced by the organization to start to create a plan and ultimately a solution (Fursule, Bansod, & Fursule, 2012).
