Pressure groups may represent a powerful minority force in a society and exert political influence to the detriment of the majority of society. This is an argument often levelled at trade unions and business groups. Some pressure groups exert influence because of their financial position, membership or organisation. This influence may be out of proportion to their position in society. Pressure group use direct action (eg. strikes by unions, demonstrations, blockades, pickets) that can cause hardship to the community in general. Some pressure groups are not democratic in themselves. CAP is a non-profit, non-governmental association (NGO) registered as a society with the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia since 1970. CAP is an association pressure group which organised interest articulation but to pursue limited goal. The motto of CAP is ‘Giving a voice to the little people’. CAP acts as a platform to educate the public and also to voice out their rights as a consumer, public can make complaints to CAP regarding any thing that are exploiting their right as a consumer. The main concern of CAP is to ensure that the right of every consumer are well protected, this includes daily living things such as the price and quality of food, food security, housing, human health care, facilities, public transport, education and a clean environment.
Objective of CAP:
1) To educate consumer, balance consumer needs and degree of protection and to provide relevant consumer rights and entitlements.
2) To advice individual consumers and protect their rights.
