President Obama addressed all students from Kindergarten through the Twelfth grade at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia, and those students across the nation who watched the nationally televised Back to School speech on September 8, 2009. In the speech, the president indicated that education is the responsibility of the student; to work hard and to do what is important, but also to do what is needed for the entire country, expressing to those listening that education is important and should be valued. Every student has something to offer, they need to discover what it is and then seek out the education to make their dreams come true, because the opportunity is there; the responsibility and opportunity lies within each and every student.
President Obama was addressing students from the age of five to eighteen his goal was to encourage, and motivate every student to do the best they could each and every day. While having the teachers’ to inspire and push each student to the best of their individual potential. President Obama also mentioned the responsibility of the parents that it is their responsibility to make sure the children stay on track, complete the daily assignments and utilize their free time by seeking out educational means of learning; not sitting playing video games or watching television for multiple hours each day.
