Similar to Lincoln’s Seward, she is from New York and was a senator. Yet another interesting parallel between Clinton and Seward are their presidential campaigns.Both campaigned against the respective men for the nomination by their party, and both failed, yet were ultimately given high positions, the same high position actually, in the cabinet. Like Lincoln and Seward, Clinton and Obama are undeniably rivals. Lincoln met Seward while at a whig rally in 1848, and over the years,became very close friends. Clinton and Obama served overlapping terms in the senate which presumably was where they met.Obama presumably appointed Clinton in an attempt to unite the democratic party. Lincoln appointed Seward to the post for similar reasons, he was an influential figure who, Lincoln thought, would best serve the country in a high position in the government. John Nicolay and Abraham Lincoln met when Nicolay worked as a clerk for the secretary of state. Rahm Emanuel seems to be more of a friend then rival, although he did initially support Hillary Clinton in the 2008 election, he later endorsed Obama. Both are democrats and have similar views regarding many issues. Rahm Emanuel was chosen as chief of staff because of his ability to accomplish tasks. Nicolay was already a secretary for Lincoln at the time of the election, and therefore was chosen to continue working
