The Pohnpeian Language
I. Introduction

As human beings we communicate in some form weather its using our mouths, sounds, motions, clicking sounds, etc. Either way we communicate to build relationships or to simply get a task done. There are roughly about 7,000 different languages spoken around the world and changes yearly (BBC). All different and from various regions of the world all have one thing in common and that is grammatical structure.
A. Background Information
First, thing about writing about a certain topic is background information. It is necessary for both the reader and writer to understand a little of what they are learning. So the language I chose was Ponapean which is spoken on the island of Ponape also known as Ascension Island.

Also, the language could become endangered because the original language is being replaced with another like English or maybe another dialect. With that being established there are currently 29,000 people who speak Pohnpeian and majority of them all live on the island or on neighbor islands. While I couldn’t necessarily pinpoint a specific reason on the endangerment of this language. I did find it interesting that the Pohnpeian language has borrowed many words from other nationalities around the world. The island was sited in 1595 by Spanish explorer, Pedro Fernandez Quiros, but officially documented and named by Russian Captain Frederic Lutke in 1828. It is documented that the Pohnpeian language has borrowed words from German, English, and Japanese Language. Out of all those 3 English has influenced the people of Pohnpeian greatly. I believe this could be the very reason of the language becoming extinct due to they have had longer contact with Americans and they have been borrowing words for decades now. Overall, I would consider this language endangered, but maybe not all

Migration in the post classical age spread language of different cultures around the world. When merchants traveled to different countries in order to carry out trades and business their language would sometimes be diffused into these other places which encouraged some people to become bilingual. One of the biggest linguistic effects of migration occurred in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Bantu people over the course of hundreds of years migrated across the majority of Central and Southern Africa and while they were doing this they left traces of their Bantu language behind them. This made many languages in this region of Africa to stem off of the Bantu language and still today you can see the effects the Bantu language had on Sub-Saharan Africa’s…

Globalization can affect total languages by wiping out their existence completely. The Translation Blog by Transpanish says “In Andean nations such as Peru, there is increasing awareness that indigenous populations require special support if their minority languages are to survive” (Translation Blog 1). It is already proven that on some very small languages, they are being taken over by the more predominant ones, simply because that allows for more communication outside the country. Even the larger languages get threatened, though. The Blog also wrote “Major languages such as English and French will likely “become victims of the Babelisation process” as these languages take on more and more local flavor in the various regions where they are spoken” (Translation Blog 1).…
