There was once a god named Plíris. The mere mention of his name brought upon thoughts of who? and I’ve never heard of them before. He wasn’t a very well known god. In fact, I doubt that anyone reading this has heard of him. Even though few know of him, he did something that effects us to this day. When Ouranos was was castrated by his son was and thrown into the ocean. Out of the sea foam the goddess Aphrodite was born. Nearby nymphs who saw this rushed to her immediately. They were so distracted by her beauty, they didn’t notice another god rise out of the sea foam and slink away. This is just the beginning of a long struggle to be noticed. Plíris travels to Mount Olympus to attempt to join the Olympian gods. The gods had recently …show more content…
When he was asked what powers he had he meekly responded that he had the power over completion and timeliness. The response he received after saying that was one of condescending confusion.
“Why would we need that? How would that be helpful, ever?” The gods inquired. Plíris, embarrassed, gave no response. The gods proceeded to turn away and denied his hope of being an Olympic god. Shortly thereafter, Aphrodite was graciously accepted to sit among the gods as part of the Olympic court.
Plíris decided that if he was not going to be acknowledged by the gods that he was going to be acknowledged by the mortals. He believed that if he was praised by the mortals he could convince the gods to accept him. Plíris went down to Athens to make himself known.
After reaching the city, Plíris began looking around and tried to find some way to make himself known. He went around the city trying to make people aware of him. At first he was met with joy.
“Oh thank you so much for coming here! We have a problem we know you can fix!” A two fishermen exclaimed. Plíris eager to help went with them to try and help them. They led him to a wharf and in the water were torn nets and strange goat-like creatures swimming through the …show more content…
I am Plíris not Pricus.” Plíris responded exasperated.
“What are you the god of?” Procras inquired.
“I am the god of completion and timeliness.” Plíris answered proudly.
“Ok, you may go now.” Procras said. “This place is getting torn down and I doubt you can do anything about it with power over things like that. How would having powers like those help you, ever?”
Unsure of what to do about this Plíris left and went to seek help from Athena. The goddess was somewhat understanding, but at the same time she wanted a new temple so she wasn’t much help. Athena advised him to just let the temple be destroyed. She asked him to consider the fact that the temple wasn’t even created for him. Unaware that he felt so strongly about this, she urged Plíris to just let this go. Plíris considered this for a moment. Soon after he decided that the temple was too important to him to let it be destroyed. He decided that he would go down and stop the destruction of the temple. With new found courage, he descended from Olympus and went to the city of Athens.
Determined and upset Plíris moved through the streets of Athens towards the Temple for the Unknown god. There were workmen inside who were getting ready to begin destroying the
