God Of The Underworld: Comparison Between Pluto And Ceres

God of the Underworld, ruler of the dead, Pluto lives in solitude at his shadowy palace. After Pluto had captured the beautiful Proserpina, Zeus made an agreement in which Proserpina will spend some of the year with Ceres, her mother and goddess of the harvest, and some with Pluto. He is downcast and heartbroken when Proserpina is not with him, because he must live in his dark castle all alone. Pluto wanting to keep Proserpina with him forever, gives her elaborate gifts whenever she is with him in the Underworld. Despite his best attempts, none of the gifts will keep her with him. The sad truth is, a deal was made between him and Ceres. Regardless, this will not stop Pluto from trying.
“I must find a way to be with my love; I cannot stand being separated from the only one who fills me with joy,” Pluto desperately states. Pluto is overcome with heartache and thinks of a solution to his problem. He plots to trick Proserpina into staying with him. He once …show more content…
Unfortunately for Pluto, Hermes the messenger god, heard about his scheme and went to alert Ceres. Upon hearing this, Ceres warns her daughter to not accept Pluto's gift. Perturbed about the news, Ceres informs Zeus hoping to stop Pluto from ever attempting another of his plots.
“Oh please dear Zeus, do something about this treacherous act; he must be stopped before he acts again,” Ceres practically begs.
“Do not fear, no god nor man shall break my covenant,” Zeus says with a stern look. Zeus, being the ruler of the gods, forms a powerful and new contract with Ceres and Pluto. The gods will be unable to break this new deal because it forcibly stops them. If one of the gods tries to violate the new compact they will freeze in their tracks until Zeus releases them. Now Proserpina will eternally move back and forth from the Underworld to the Earth with her
