Unfortunately for Pluto, Hermes the messenger god, heard about his scheme and went to alert Ceres. Upon hearing this, Ceres warns her daughter to not accept Pluto's gift. Perturbed about the news, Ceres informs Zeus hoping to stop Pluto from ever attempting another of his plots.
“Oh please dear Zeus, do something about this treacherous act; he must be stopped before he acts again,” Ceres practically begs.
“Do not fear, no god nor man shall break my covenant,” Zeus says with a stern look. Zeus, being the ruler of the gods, forms a powerful and new contract with Ceres and Pluto. The gods will be unable to break this new deal because it forcibly stops them. If one of the gods tries to violate the new compact they will freeze in their tracks until Zeus releases them. Now Proserpina will eternally move back and forth from the Underworld to the Earth with her
