Government Funding for Stem Cell Research Helps save Lives Many people today consider stem cell research to be unethical and believe it should not be financed by the government. Stem cell research, with the exception of human cloning, should be funded by government because if there are no funds to support stem cell research, countless people would not be alive today. It is even supported by President Barack Obama and many Christians, and with funding so many illnesses and diseases can be treated or even cured with stem cells and save lives. Embryonic stem cells (ES) are heavily under fire when it comes to researching. According to Lawrence S.B. Goldstein and Meg Schneider, co-authors of Stem Cells for Dummies, “The word embryo conjures a mental picture of a miniature baby. However, at the point when human embryonic cells are collected, they have not yet formed what most people think of when they hear the word embryo.” (54) ES cells come from the Blastocyst which are tiny clusters of cells that form before the placenta and umbilical cord.
