My personal values that have help me to understand someone’s request for help is my faith and being self-less along with caring. The upbringing that I was given teaches me to turn to my faith as a source for help that will guide me on where to go for physical help. I understand from my personal values that requesting for help is a smart thing to do and it will not put you in harms way. Once help was given to me, I am thankful that I received it, but also show how I received it through demonstration of walking out what was given to me. As I do this, the results that I need will be obtain to me. For example, my development environment had now informed me that there was going to be a change in how I get to school and what classes I would be taking. I now would have to take public transportation to school instead of walking to school with the other children within my neighborhood. This change would cause me to be with other children from different neighborhoods, ethnic back rounds. I also would not be sitting in one classroom, but changing classes through out the day and meeting different teachers. As I begin to travel to school, one morning I notice that the bus I was on was taking a different route and nothing was familiar to me. I knew then that I was in need of help. I took notice of the people that were on the bus with me and was scared to ask them for help. I then went to ask the bus driver for help as soon as the bus had come to a complete stop. The bus driver not only gave me the help that I needed, but allowed me to connect to the bus that would get me to the school on …show more content…
I notice that she would not allow her personal feelings to carry over, but understood what the problem was and how to help. I also notice that the social worker would stay within her work hours of employment and not phone after hours if calls were to be made. The social worker would not talk about her personal feelings or demonstrate how she would handle the problem if it were she. The help that she provided was professional in every aspect of it and she remand neutral when asking the question what we should do. The social worker answer would always be what do you think or feel is best in this

I have learned that I can never assume things about a person or situation. I also learned that I should do research on my clients background and try to gain understanding about what goes on in their lives and why they react the way they do. One major mistake the social worker made was over stepping her professional boundaries. This in particular showed me that I have to be always mindful of agency policy, and not get too attached to a client. Faith Harper’s story gave great insight into social work practice, and I will attempt to go above and beyond to help all women in Faith’s…

When I read the case vignette, there was no thought of a dysfunctional individual. Stated in NASW code of ethics, a social worker doesn’t judge or blame a person for their hardship. We are trained to be their advocate when is needed. An individual or anyone can fall on hard times, become depressed because of the circumstances that are happening in their life. The first thing, I thought about was their children.…

I was originally going to tell you to “screw them” but the reality is social workers are also in a culture that doesn’t value input from us as much as we would like. Instead it looks at codes and why people like Paul are depressed and not the situation he is in that could be linked to racism. For me, we need to play by rules of the world to do the most good while hoping that my way of looking…

I find this article significant because as a social worker we should have that kind of attitude such caring and love to help people. However,we are limited to certain things , we shouldn’t get our self-involve in helping a client that a case has already been close by a new worker who couldn’t handle the case. For example, although koorer was doing the right thing for caring and helping but she didn’t do it the right way,she should have known her limit because that is how she got into trouble. This is a way to show that social worker shouldn’t have relationship outside with client especially, when the client is no longer assigned to you. According to the other the worker went to court for that because Skovholt, T., & Mathison, M. (2010).…

During my discussion with my supervisor, I also learned that I was going through counter-transference with Ms. Martinez. I saw myself as her hero, who was there to protect her and teach her the skills she lacked. I was displaying the feelings I had for my mother, who I have always protected and whom I have made very dependent on me. I believed that the ending of this therapeutic relationship helped me understand that social workers must be highly skilled in self-awareness and sensitivity, in order to provide the best service possible (Woods and Hollis,…

Social work values require those in the role to demonstrate a commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and anti-oppressive practice. Personal values, prejudices, beliefs and attitudes can change how practitioners respond with service users; these can be done either obviously or discreetly within the professional relationship (Heydt and Sherman 2005). Meaning social workers must can challenge their own beliefs and characteristics. It is important for social workers to be sensitive to the needs of other adults, especially if they have communication difficulties. Social workers must refrain from communicating with another adult differently unless essential.…

Change is seen differently by different people. Some accept it while others deny it, depending on their values and mentality. This is seen in many places in today’s world, like political models, society’s values, and debates on environment based on science. Similar to almost everyone, life presented me with a chance of change when I was fairly young, end of 4th grade to be exact. I was asked by my parents to switch schools from a local medium to international medium of studies in India.…

The encounter with different audiences demands us to be flexible and to consider each point of the spectrum. I feel that no matter what our personal views we should always separate ourselves as a person and always serve as a social worker and our intention should always be for the benefit of our client. That does not mean to lose ourselves or our identity, but rather to wear it like a coat we can take on and off to better serve and not hinder ourselves when serving the…

If service users, carers and social workers work alongside each other instead of against each other they can both give feedback back and forth and work in partnership to form better outcomes for others in similar situations. This will help build up relationships and helps the understanding of both parties. This situation was an impacting one to reflect on as the Congress day was set up to help widen our knowledge and I found it highly beneficial from this specific workshop that 'service users and carers are so diverse and not two are alike.' (Congress day, 2017) This means that a social worker needs to have the skill of adapting to suit the service user and carers needs they are working with.…
