During this assignment, I will be using Gibbs reflective model to describe service users and carer's perspectives. Then reflecting back on the information/experience I have gathered and applying it to how it has contributed positively to social work practice. I'll be gradually moving onto the skills that are required to work effectively alongside service users and carers for a positive outcome. Ending with me demonstrating a positive value base for working with service users and carers throughout my assignment.

Throughout the 12 weeks on the service users and carer's module, I have gathered a wide range of perspective from different service users and carers. Throughout I will be quoting this as 'a member of commensus' instead of their name

And set himself an aim of helping other young carers. At the time I had questions on how it impacted his childhood which I asked he then replied: "It's all I've known, I feel it hasn't affected me negatively."(Commensus, 2017). This contributes to positive social work practice as it helps social workers take others views on so they can then develop the overall relationships with social workers and service users and carers. This will help build up relationships and helps the understanding of both parties. This situation was an impacting one to reflect on as the Congress day was set up to help widen our knowledge and I found it highly beneficial from this specific workshop that 'service users and carers are so diverse and not two are alike.' (Congress day, 2017) This means that a social worker needs to have the skill of adapting to suit the service user and carers needs they are working with. If I was to go back to this workshop I would definitely ask more questions on any past experience with social workers that weren't good/professional or up to the …show more content…
Her son is severely autistic and she has a positive experience with social workers as they helped her when she felt no one else could help her. She felt overly needy but as time went on she built a strong relationship with the social worker and now meets as much as legally required. She says that "my social worker has consistent strong skills such as being open and good communication skills. Helping me develop my knowledge and the help that I can get for my son's autism." (Commensus, 2017). This made me have a positive view of social worker's and service users and carer's relationships. At the time I was thinking how happy I was for the carer and her son for getting the help she needed. The thing I would improve if I went back to this would be to ask the carer how she felt when the "weight was lifted off" her shoulders. '(Commensus, 2017). I'd ask her if she has any breaks to herself and how she finds things to do for herself like hobbies

As a social worker, I will encounter many unique backgrounds and circumstances that I may not have any clue what it is like to be in their shoes. Nonetheless, this workshop taught me how to still go about these relationships without feeling that I have nothing to offer. I find this article significant because as a social worker we should have that kind of attitude such caring and love to help people. However,we are limited to certain things , we shouldn’t get our self-involve in helping a client that a case has already been close by a new worker who couldn’t handle the case. For example, although koorer was doing the right thing for caring and helping but she didn’t do it the right way,she should have known her limit because that is how she got into trouble. This is a way to show that social worker shouldn’t have relationship outside with client especially, when the client is no longer assigned to you. According to the other the worker went to court for that because Skovholt, T., & Mathison, M. (2010).…
