As a child, I rolled around a lot, as I was discovering how my body worked. According to a story I have heard countless times from my parents, one day I attempted to stand up and managed to do it by myself. However, I couldn’t figure out how to sit back down as it was my first time trying this out. As a result of the lower half of my body being uncoordinated, I begun to cry as I was stuck standing up. After help from my parents, I managed to sit back down. The validity of this story has yet to be known. Proximodistal development however is the development from the center of the body outwards. As a result, the head and torso develop first followed by the extremities. This was evident in my ability to demonstrate gross motor skills first through walking to my closet to pick out which shoes i wanted to wear and then being able to put on my own shoes and tie them using fine motor
