Qualitative measures can be used to determine how well a given quality initiative is fulfilled. Data measures that use surveys are considered qualitative because they reflect an individual’s opinion (Harris, et al., 2016). In this local emergency department, Press Ganey and HCAHPS scores are used to reflect patient satisfaction with their health care. These tools can still provide data that reflect “patient-centered” quality measures. Future data regarding changes in the fall rates in this emergency department might also be considered important in the future evaluation of the intentional rounding project.
Data will also be used to measure staff satisfaction with the quality improvement project. The evaluation of staff satisfaction with the implementation of intentional rounding will provide initial insight on potential barriers to success, and can be used to exemplify the improvements that are needed to ensure a long-term sustainment of the process change. A pre and post staff survey will serve to explain potential differences in staff satisfaction
