Panic Attacks In Psychology, there is a chapter of Psychological Disorders. Psychological Disorders are defines as, abnormalities of the mind that result in persistent behavior patterns that can seriously affect your day to day function and life. People react in different ways in different cases. People commit suicide or have suicidal thoughts, in some there are worse scenario where one cannot even imagine. However, panic attacks can be worst too. Panic attack is a sudden surge of overwhelming anxiety and fear. Panic attacks affect about 40 million American adults age 18 years and older about 18% every year. Panic attacks can occur at any time, even during sleep. An attack usually peaks within 10 minutes, but some symptoms may last much longer. Panic attacks can be caused by family history, major life stress, and abnormalities in the brain Panic attacks are caused by family history. Panic disorder has been shown to sometimes run in families. It may sometimes be passed on to the people by one or both parents much like the risk for other risk for other complex diseases such as cancer and heart disease. In addition to biological factors researchers are also investigating how stress and environmental factors may play a role. A major stressful life event, such as a birth, divorce, accident or the death of someone close, can trigger a panic attack in someone who previously exhibited no signs of the disorder.
