People suffer from this disorder continually, and the anxiety they undergo is usually brought on for no reason at all. They constantly expect a disaster to happen and unreasonably fear for their health, family, money, or work. People who are plagued by this disorder know that the anxiety they are facing is ridiculous, but they cannot help it. These people have difficulties trying to relax, and they have a hard time sleeping. Not only do their worries overwhelm them, but they also feel physical pain. The physical symptoms they encounter include shaking, headaches, sweating, hot flashes, and nausea. Just fewer than 7 million Americans suffer from this disorder. The cause of this anxiety is not quite understood, but it could include a person’s personality and their genetics. The two main treatments for this disorder are medications and psychotherapy. Psychotherapy concentrates on teaching a person skills to slowly get them back to the activities they were avoiding. Medications people are put on are anti-depressants. To also combat this disorder, there are things people can do at home. People should get physically active, and they need to avoid alcohol and caffeine. Anxiety disorders are usually found in younger adults rather than older adults. Although, anxiety disorders can develop at anytime to anybody. No one really knows why some people have them and others do not.
Yoga has proven that it can help reduce anxiety. In a study done by researchers at a university in Germany, 24 anxiety-ridden women were studied. In the study, the researches had 12 of the women do two 90-minute yoga sessions each week for 3 months whereas the other 12 just continued on with their regular routine. The 12 who did yoga each week, showed improvements in anxiety and overall well-being. Overall well-being scores improved by 65% while anxiety scores increased by 30%. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, taking slow deep breaths, counting to 10, accepting that not everything can be controlled, and learning what triggers anxiety can help ease
