This is when the brains chemistry is changed with drugs or the therapy affects the brain’s circuitry with electrical stimulation, magnetic impulses, or psychosurgery (Meyers & Dewall, 2014). For me, I would suggest a medication because I am not inhibited from performing normal activities throughout the day and at times I am able to calm myself down at least half of the time I begin to have a panic attack. Using a medication would be a way to explore if that form of help would be beneficial for me, or if there is an underlying cause that I had not discovered before. A form of Drug Therapy, which is using medication to control feelings, could be using an antianxiety such as Xanax or Ativan (Meyers & Dewall, 2014). Both of these drugs could help calm me down when I feel a panic or anxiety attack begin to happen, which could help me gain control of my feelings, but I would need to try one and possibly then the next one if the one used first is not effective. One problem with using a medication to fix these attacks, is that I could become too reliant on these pills, and not really fix the situation I am in.
