For centuries, our caveman ancestors scavenged off the land for food resources, but today people are challenging their way of eating. Critics say that it is not ethical for people to eat that way anymore, and that there is no need for it. They believe our digestive tract is able to handle the modern processed and genetically modified foods that we are introduced to daily. That is far from the truth and there are also a plethora of benefits that have yet to be discussed amongst educated individuals about this type of diet. The support that comes with this diet is also a major benefit. It always feels great to connect with people who are going through the same struggles and who know the feeling of just starting out. They can reach out and help give encouragement to each other. As stated by K. Aleisha Fetters in the article “Everything You Need To Know About The Paleo Diet,” “online community forums, Facebook pages, and even Meetup groups are filled with people living the ancient lifestyle in modern times” (para. 5). Support is needed when first starting the Paleo Diet because it is a bit of a hassle to start, but if it is followed for a while, it basically becomes a lifestyle. These online support groups and such are not something that is common in many other diets. Whether or not our digestive system has evolved for our modern day diet, this diet makes it easier for the body to absorb nutrients and digest foods. It may not be the ideal diet for most people, but the benefits of this diet are slowly being unearthed and could help some people decrease their risk of cardiovascular diseases. In this day and age, decreasing someone’s risk of health problems is a big issue and should not be taken lightly. On the other hand though, probably the healthiest individuals, athletes, also use this diet to increase their lean muscle mass. By increasing lean muscle mass, one can increase their metabolism, which could also be another plus to the Paleo Diet. To top all that off, there are also online community forums and such to help support people on this diet, and that is something unique that most other diets do not have.
