Therefore, you will understand why I believe these activities help further my knowledge on poverty and oppression, such as learning centres number 18 and number 8. This will also consider how I feel with my learning style and multiple intelligences and how I do not fit just one standard when it comes to them. With that being said, this analysis will also consider how the centres could be used in the future in my own classroom.
Poverty is an issue that is widespread across the world, the learning centre number 28, with a short video and article from Paul Solman, countries with smaller wealth gap touches on the poverty gab where is shows that poverty is found worldwide (2011). However, it constantly seems to be an issue that is hidden under the rug. This makes spending the last few classes on poverty a different and occasionally difficult topic to approach. This class is approaching a subject that most classes would avoid, nor discuss leaving the students who are in poverty or even oppressed behind. The test revealed to my surprise in certain areas that I was musically inclined, which was something I was personally unaware of. Secondly, it brought to my attention that I was also a kinaesthetic learner, something I had already had a suspicion on. When considering these now, the subjects seem obvious. When working on essays or studying, there tends to be music or background noise. I cannot sit for long periods and tend to fidget, and appreciate being able to participate in activities rather than just listening. Participation in the learning centres allowed for my learning styles to have a lead in what I was doing and how I was doing it. With centre #18 we played a board game. I was able to be participating in what I was learning and using my hands, and mind to learn. This was similar within centre #8 where we read an article, which was slightly difficult to concentrate on with the noise level high in the classroom, however, we had to use play dough to create a sculpture to describe the role of poverty in the capitalist system. This allowed for me to create something that went along with the read and make connections in a way which allowed for me to explore my mind, this lead to a sculpture in which comes from a representation of Harry Potter.
