Cross Catholic Outreach Study

I am not a Priest, but a religious Sister from Tanzania lived in the US for 10 years. When I read the Cross Catholic Outreach job posting, even though deserved for priests only, I felt interested in doing the job for the poor even for volunteer basis. I have great passion for the poor, and my dissertation in fact was on “Poverty and the Challenges of Quality Primary and Secondary School Education Access in Mara- Tanzania.
While doing my study, I realized that poverty was a major challenge across the planet and the major cause of many problems we face today, and the poor need advocacy voices on their behalf. When I started writing my dissertation in 2012, poverty was a topic, which people were uncomfortable to discuss. The views of many was

In today’s society, people are swept up in the wrath of being too prideful, or become greedy. These deadly sins deaden our religious life, causing us to distance ourselves from God’s path. Everyone must dig deep into their spiritual lives, and lend a helping hand to those who need it the most. Whether it’s simply having a conversation with a homeless person, donating money, or volunteering at a daycare for the destitute children, these charitable acts can make a huge difference in someone’s life. My service learning experience was an eye opener for me, and it made me realize how privileged and blessed I truly am.…

Poverty is an issues that is widespread across the world, the learning centre 28, with a short video and article from Paul Solman, countries with smaller wealth gap touches on the poverty gab where is shows that poverty is found worldwide (2011). However it constantly seems to be an issue that is hidden under the rug. This makes spending the last few classes on poverty a different and sometimes difficult topic to approach. This class is approaching a subject that most classes would avoid, nor discuss leaving the students who are in poverty or even oppressed behind. Peggy McIntosh (1990) touches base on poverty and oppression in her article White Privilege:…

I tend to think of this point as the most important point. Standing and serving those in need doesn't have to just be the poor, it could be a friend who was being bullied, or someone who simply needed help with homework. As Catholics, we stand by people who need assistance rather than running away and ignoring them. This summer, I worked at the Center for Food Action, which is a food bank in north Jersey. Helping out and delivering the canned good and donations to the needy was such an amazing experience.…

In our society, we see poverty as taboo because of this idea that there should not be an excuse to be poor in this country. As a future educator it is my duty to educate those around me to start being serious about eliminating poverty, especially in low income families that are not aware of the tools and resources they can use to help them get on a road out of poverty. In Community Anti-Strategies, by Strier Roni, he states “surrounding the goals of anti-poverty strategies and the contentious ideological nature of poverty theories, make the task of reaching a common conceptualization of ‘community anti-poverty strategy’ extremely difficult”. In order to tackle and guide those in desperate relief of poverty, we must be able to take the rights…

“Third-world people do not need more rich Christians coming to paint their church and make them feel inadequate. They do need more humble people willing to share in their lives and sacrifices” (Van Engen, “The Cost” 2). People on short-term mission trips are pressed for time; their trips last one to two weeks. That makes it harder for short-termers to take the time to sit and listen instead of doing something with their hands. It is not a bad thing to want to serve the communities by acting, but sometimes it is more helpful to learn from the community.…

I like to sing and I like to watch my friends perform too, and at Holy Family Catholic School, we have all our pep rallies and talent shows in three different rooms instead of just one room particularly for that. If we had one single room, we could add chairs instead of sitting on the floor. We could add stage lights so we can add more drama. We can also make the room much bigger, and I feel it would be great if Holy Family Catholic School could add an auditorium. First, we could add chairs to the auditorium.…

Throughout this course, I have learned about the variety of issues that is happening in our environment and poverty is one of the human ecology subjects that lack attention in many nations. To begin with, poverty is defined as the condition where people’s basic needs for food, water, and shelter are not being met. As I researched my blog’s argument about eradicating poverty myths and stereotypes, I found out people tend to generalize all poor people meaning they believe that all poor people are lazy, unmotivated or even drug and substance abusers. Lack of information leads people to form this beliefs. Personally, I feel that the presentation has allowed to understand my topic even more. I decided to do more research about records and stats on poverty. For example, I found out that from 1981 till 2005, the percentage of people living in “extreme” poverty has dropped about 30 percent.…

One of the greatest pressing issues the Christian church faces today is with its vocations. The problem is the increasing lack of vocations to ministry and service to the church due to a number of pre-existing issues the church has been facing in recent years. These issues alone were already notable; however the evident decrease in vocations has quickly become a much larger issue for the church {footnote}. The reason as to why a decrease of vocations is a major problem for the church is (in my opinion) best summed up by Matthew 28:16-20:…
